According to reports, a large number of Ambedkarite movement representatives from the Ambedkarite movement worldwide are expected to attend the unveiling event at the AIC, which is located approximately 35 km from Washington DC. The memorial’s primary purpose is to disemminate BR Ambedkar’s teachings and messages, serving as a symbol of equality and human rights.

Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, affectionately known as Babasaheb, was born on April 14, 1891. He held the position of Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly, earning him the titles of the ‘Architect of the Indian Constitution’ and the ‘Father of the Indian Constitution’. Additionally, he served as the Minister of Law and Justice in the post-Independence government, working alongside Prime Minister Pt Jawaharlal Nehru. He played a pivotal role in social movements advocating for the rights of Dalits and untouchables in India. On October 14, 1956, he embraced Buddhism, a day celebrated among Ambedkarites as Dhamma Chakra Parivartan Din.

In India, statues of Ambedkar can be found lining streets across all states, honouring his work and teachings.
