The United States have won the inaugural edition of the United Cup – with only three of the five matches scheduled for the final against Italy completed.
The team got the job done in style, beginning with Jessie Pegula beating Martina Trevisan 6-4, 6-2, then Frances Tiafoe winning when Lorenzo Musetti retired from their singles match 6-2 down, and although Matteo Berrettini and Taylor Fritz were very evenly matched, it was the American who came out on top 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6).
In the first dead rubber, Madison Keys continued the dominance, beating Lucia Bronzetti 6-3, 6-2.
The USA has swept the board 5-0, winning all their ties during the competition. They are the only team at the tournament to feature four singles players ranked within the top 20.
